What is intrapreneurship?

More and more employees with a project are becoming entrepreneurs. Financed by their company, they can then develop their projects while keeping their status. For Valérie Rocoplan, coach and founder of Talentis, the acceleration of innovation explains this phenomenon.

More and more companies are interested.

Although many companies are beginning to address the issue, it is mainly the big companies that are leading the way in intrapreneurship. Because they are "moved" to see their talents leave them to create their start-up and innovate elsewhere. To counter this phenomenon, many large groups are wondering how to convince them to stay, and to make them progress internally. It is therefore a question of immersing these talents in a protected universe, allowing them to live out their entrepreneurial dreams, to let their ideas emerge to become projects supported by the company.

There is no spontaneous generation of intrapreneurs.

Companies have many talented people with ideas who are eager to develop them. Unfortunately, they are often stifled by organisations that are too vertical and not responsive enough.

Detect and fund those with good ideas.

Organisation of competitions, start-up weekends, etc. Various possibilities exist to detect good innovation ideas and those who have them. Once selected, the project will receive funding from the company. Thus, the idea bearer is not obliged to leave his or her company to make his or her dream come true. A budget is allocated to them, all or part of their working time is freed up... In recent years, the very strong attraction exerted by start-ups has accelerated the movement and made large companies react, as they are aware that they must act quickly.

The acceleration of innovation continues to grow.

Althoughit is not new, intrapreneurship is a growing phenomenon. The acceleration of innovation is such that the attraction capacity of large groups is not always enough to keep their talents. The latter no longer have the patience to wait for the time to market. Either the talents decide to create their own start-up, or they become intrapreneurs because, in the end, being financed by their company can be more comfortable.

Innovation is essential for the survival of large groups.

They know that their survival is at stake if they do not innovate fast enough. Bringing out talent and retaining it by giving it the means to flourish can ensure their survival.

Some groups are even developing in-house start-up incubators, with a dedicated budget.
