How to take stock of your professional year?

TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to this new Coaching Minute around the subject: taking stock of your professional year. Each past year is composed of successes, pride, discoveries, discoveries, learning, but also probably difficulties, pitfalls, obstacles, disappointments, and demotivations.

What is interesting for, taking advantage of this end of the year, is to finally say to yourself: “What did I learn this year? ” Revisit what worked well, my successes, my discoveries, my prides, but also what was more difficult. Indeed, it is at the heart of the difficulties that we learn a lot.

Tip 1: Write down your learnings for the year.

What is the best thing I can do at the end of this year? As a person, who am I again? There are behaviors and postures that maybe I have also developed beyond my expertise and my professional know-how.

Tip 2: Ask for feedback.

It is not bad to take advantage of the end of the year to ask for feedback. Of course, you are going to have your end of year interview, but you can ask for feedback from friends, colleagues, not just your manager. Ask them for example: “Finally, what do you think I did well this year? What do you think of how we worked together this year? ”

Take stock of how much fun others have working with you.

Tip 3: Think about your motivations.

Take some time to think about your personal and professional motivations. What do you like about your job? What do you like about life in general? What could you be missing in your job that you could perhaps ask to do more, or less, to generate more motivation? Finally, it's quite rare the moments when you sit down and say to yourself, finally, “What do I like about my job, what do I like less? ” We all have a bit difficult tasks in each of our jobs, but overall is it something that enriches me, in which I learn or I thrive? Take this little time to say to yourself, either I can change jobs, or I can expand my job, do new things next year because it motivates me, because I am good at this field and because I find it very interesting, and also because it is good for the company!

Tip 4: Take stock of your energy management.

How are you at the end of the year? Did you manage your energy and stress quite well? Are you in good shape or do you really need to think about how you organize your agenda for next year?

Take some time to say to yourself: “What am I committed to next year to better manage my time, better manage my organization? ” Maybe do things you didn't manage to do this year?

For example, going to the pool twice a week or walking for half an hour at lunchtime instead of eating your salad in front of your computer. Take this time to take stock of your energy management. Finally, a review of the year is good that it ends with a short action plan for next year.

For us, what we like in coaching is to ask the following questions: what am I going to do more; what am I going to do less; what will I continue to do and what will I stop doing? Take some time to write that down on a piece of paper. Next year, what am I going to do more; what am I going to do less; what am I going to stop doing and what am I going to do again? Take this time out of small contracts with yourself and reread it in six months. See you soon!
